5 Memorial Day Facts

1. There's always a first

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by Gen. John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. 2. I love a parade

Cities and towns across the United States host Memorial Day parades each year, often incorporating military personnel and members of veterans’ organizations. Some of the largest parades take place in Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. (Fact courtesy history.com.)

3. Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice

Since the late 1950s, on the Thursday just before Memorial Day, around 1200 soldiers of the 3rd US Infantry place small American flags at each of more than 260,000 gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery. They then patrol 24 hours a day during the weekend to ensure that each flag remains standing. (Fact courtesy tidbitfun.com.)

4. Poppies for heroes

Red poppies are often worn on Memorial Day to remember those who served the United States. This tradition was begun by Moina Michael, who wrote a poem to honor fallen heroes entitled “In Flanders Fields.” Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) was the first national organization to sell poppies. They are often made by disabled American Veterans. (Fact courtesy katrenawells.suite101.com.)

5. Flying the flag

On Memorial Day, flags are raised in the morning and then lowered to half staff until noon. (Fact courtesy usmemorialday.org)

We are so proud of Chandler for all he learned this year in 5K!

Hard to believe we have a 1st grader on our hands.
He asked me tonight when I tucked him into bed,
Mommy who will be my teacher next year?

I pray it is someone who will challenge him just as his teacher has done this year!

Oh My, Dust Bunnies

Last Friday night a week ago, I decided that Chandler's bedroom needed to be moved around to give him more playroom with the summer months coming up!  We don't keep many toys downstairs but with summer months coming up, the toys always seem to walk down the stairs themselves!  lol
It has been about a year since his bed has been moved and wow
the
DUST
BUNNIES

Some of his books have been moved into his room so he can sit and read without Miss Annie bothering him!  lol

I am thankful for this little friend!  What a clean relationship we have!

When I start to clean, I like to clean everything so I decided that our bedroom needed a good cleaning.  I decided that our bed had not been moved in 6 1/2 years and wow, DUST BUNNIES behind, under and everywhere!  Never knew that DUST BUNNIES could exist under the bed as well!

After the DUST BUNNIES were removed!

I am not a person who likes change much but I am getting better!
Chad and I are actually loving the new set up!

Our bed use to be on the wall where the dresser is currently.  The dresser was pulled back out my closet which gives me more room....on to that organization another Saturday when school is out!

My favorite wall in the room!

And on another note....this is where Miss Annie likes to spend her Saturday morning!

Be scared, be very scared if you dare to look behind your bed!

Ouch

Can you say ouch!

Still does not stop him from eating his breakfast!

Could it be a nasty right from his baby sister
Maybe a fly ball
or
Hard to Believe But...
Our sleepy head child was not completely up and fell face forward into the corner of his dresser this morning.  I had turned to open his bathroom door and I heard this horrible sound.  When I turned back around, he was on the floor.  Not too many tears, I think he was in complete shock!

I should have taken another picture tonight but did not want to draw attention to him.
It is a pretty purple and the swelling is more under his eye!

and.....

he was walking to his bus this afternoon and a child ran him over and he also has a nasty strawberry to the knee.
